Fernando Sabag Montiel threatened Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner on Thursday in what many are describing as an assassination attempt.
According to the New York Post, the event happened at Fernandez de Kirchner’s house in Buenos Aires. Many of her supporters arrived at her home to show their support for her during her ongoing corruption trial.
No shots were fired, and de Kirchner remained unarmed despite the suspect apparently pointing a gun at her and threatening her.

According to the police, the suspect is Fernando Sabag Montiel, a 35-year-old citizen of Brazil. Additionally, a bersa cal. 32 auto, the suspected crime’s weapon, was found at the location.
Fernando Sabag Montiel was born in Sao Paolo on January 13, 1987, and his family moved to Buenos Aires in 1993, where he spent his formative years.

Many Argentine politicians presented explanations for who Montiel was and the circumstances surrounding his alleged attack on Fernandez de Kirchner after the incident.
Candidate for the upcoming Brazilian election Luiz Inaco Lula da Silva conjectured that Montiel belonged to the radical far right and stated:
“Cristina is the victim of a criminal fascist who does not know how to respect differences. Thank God she escaped unharmed.”
Tetaz said:
“This seems to be the clumsy action of an unbalanced person with no connection to politics.”
However, Montiel’s girlfriend gave CNN a very different account of the suspect. He was a hardworking man, she claimed, and he never displayed any extremist tendencies. She also noted:
“In all honesty, I was not aware of all this. [He] did not tell me any detail.”
