Erik Karlsson is a Swedish-born professional ice hockey player who is widely regarded as one of the league’s top defensemen. He was born in Landsbro, Sweden, on May 31, 1990.
Before joining the Frolunda HC organization, Karlsson played hockey in his native Sweden for a number of junior teams. During the 2008–2009 season, he quickly advanced the ranks and made his Swedish Hockey League (SHL) debut. In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the Ottawa Senators selected him with the 15th overall pick due to his exceptional on-ice abilities.
Karlsson made an immediate impression in the NHL and quickly rose to the position of one of the league’s most dynamic and offensively talented defensemen.
