FANS have demanded that Emma Louise Jones, the host of BBC Sport, take Gary Lineker’s place on Match of the Day.
After comparing the Government’s plans to forbid immigrants arriving in Britain on small boats from settling there with “1930’s Germany,” Lineker was fired from the programme.
The former Premier League player was required to leave his presenting position after it was determined that he had violated BBC policies.
However, his dismissal caused a commotion because a large number of Match of the Day co-hosts chose to boycott the show in support of the veteran presenter.
It has caused some fans to leave lengthy comments on presenter Jones’ Instagram post in an effort to get her to take Lineker’s place.
One said: “What you doing Saturday night? Fancy the MOTD Gig?”
Another posted: “MOTD needs you.”
One added: “All set for MOTD tonight?”
Another commented: “Can you be the new presenter for MOTD please.”
Jones has also presented for Leeds TV in the past and for BBC Radio 5 Live.
Match of the Day has fallen into disarray as a result of Jones’ BBC coworkers’ refusal to support Lineker.
In the midst of the commotion, Micah Richards, Alan Shearer, Jermaine Jenas, Alex Scott, and Ian Wright all declined to step in.
Even the matchday commentators quit the programme.
The BBC has confirmed that there won’t be any commentators or hosts on tonight’s episode of Match of the Day.
There won’t be any Premier League players or managers interviewed for the show.
