A black FedEx driver named D’Monterrio Gibson was allegedly shot by two white Mississippi men in January 2022. Tuesday saw the brief delivery of opening arguments in the Mississippi trial of two white men. According to reports, Brandon Case and his father Gregory Charles Case chased Gibson and fired shots at him.
The incident happened after Gibson delivered a package to a home in January 2022. Charges of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy, and firing into Gibson’s vehicle were brought against both men in November.
D’Monterrio Gibson: who is he?
The age of D’Monterrio Gibson is 25. Discussions about racism on social media were sparked by the incident. Thankfully, he avoided getting hurt during the chase and gunfire. The court proceeding is currently occurring in Brookhaven, which is located about 55 miles (90 kilometers) south of Jackson, the state capital.
According to District Attorney Dee Bates, Gibson was delivering packages for FedEx on January 24, 2022, while driving a rental van with the Hertz logo visible on three sides. Gregory Case attempted to block the van’s exit after using a pickup truck to deliver a package to a residence on a dead-end road. According to the prosecutor, Brandon Case then came out of the house brandishing a gun.
Gibson admitted at a press conference that he had been operating an unmarked car that FedEx had rented while donning a FedEx uniform. He said he had delivered something to a house successfully. As he was leaving, he saw a white pickup truck pulling away from another house on the same large parcel of land.
Gibson remembered trying to get out of the pickup truck as he was pulling out of the driveway. After maneuvering around the pickup, he came across a second person who signaled for him to stop by pointing a gun in the direction of his van.
