THE OLDER BROTHER OF convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez is now facing his own legal issues.
According to Bristol Police Department records, he was arrested in July 2023 after alarming charges were made.
Who is Aaron Hernandez’s brother, DJ?
Dennis “DJ” Hernandez was born in Bristol, Connecticut, on May 18, 1986, parents Dennis and Terri Hernandez.
Aside from being Aaron Hernandez’s brother, he is well-known for his work in the development agency industry.
He has been the CEO of the development organization Gracias My Love since 2009.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he has also worked as a technical recruiter and a corporate tax professional in the Tampa, Florida, area.
DJ used to want to be a football coach, but after his brother was imprisoned, he chose to pursue other alternatives.
High Rise Roofing, a roofing company he founded in 2016, was one of those opportunities.
DJ began going by the name Jonathan about the same period, in an attempt to disassociate himself from his brother’s actions.
“Jonathan Hernandez used to be D.J. Hernandez, but his clients are unaware unless he informs them.” He hardly never tells them. “There’s a lot he doesn’t tell them,” Sports Illustrated’s Michael Rosenberg wrote in a piece.
“They need to know when their roof will be fixed, not that their roofer sometimes takes calls from his famous brother at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Mass.”
DJ holds a bachelor of science degree and a master’s degree in educational psychology, which were both obtained at the University of Connecticut.
Why was DJ Hernandez arrested?
DJ has tried to stay out of the spotlight since his brother’s death, but he has run into difficulty with the authorities several times over the years.
He was arrested in July 2023 after multiple people came forward to complain that he was “acting erratically” and “sending alarming text messages,” according to Bristol Police Department papers obtained by TMZ Sports.
Cops were afraid that he was planning school shootings at both UConn and Brown after exhibiting indicators of being “gravely disabled and a danger to society.”
A lady claiming to be his ex told cops that he drove to the schools instead of going to his planned court appointment on July 7, resulting in a separate arrest.
According to TMZ Sports, DJ was also detained twice in March 2023 for leading officers on a “wild” automobile pursuit and allegedly throwing a brick at ESPN’s campus.
Who was Aaron Hernandez?
Aaron Hernandez is best known as a former NFL tight end who was convicted of murder.
DJ’s younger brother appeared to have it all: a multi-million dollar football contract, a prestigious seat on the New England Patriots squad, and a promising NFL future, but that all changed the day he was arrested for murder.
In 2013, he was arrested and accused with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-pro football player and Aaron’s friend.
He maintained his innocence throughout the investigation, but after a protracted trial, the former NFL star was found guilty in April 2015 of first-degree murder, which carries an automatic life sentence without the chance of parole, according to Bleacher Report.
He committed suicide two years later, at the age of 27.
