“I thought my time in St. Louis might be done, that they had kind of moved on from me,” he recalled in February 2019, after posting nine straight wins, which was a franchise record for a rookie goalie.
“I didn’t lose in regulation for 14 games or something and still wasn’t the guy. I think it was an experience I needed to go through, getting shoved aside, feeling like my back was against the wall.
“I think I’ve been pretty resilient ever since,” he added.
Later that year, Binnington became the first-ever rookie goalie to win 16 playoff games, which helped lead the Blues to the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup Championship.
