When the trailer(opens in new tab) for the 2019 relaunch debuted late last month, the enthusiastic screams of devoted fans of the MTV hit reality series The Hills could be heard all over the world. The minute-long teaser for The Hills: New Beginnings offered little views of the gang then and today, despite being brief and intentionally mysterious. Nearly ten years have gone since the tragic series conclusion of the enormously popular Laguna Beach spinoff, and (most of) the group, including Audrina Patridge, is back in action and coping with fresh problems in both their personal and professional lives.
Since the end of the programme in 2010, Patridge has dealt with her fair share of unscripted real-life drama. Although much of her storyline on The Hills fleshed out her seesaw relationship with resident Bad BoyTM Justin Bobby Brescia, Partridge also famously dated singer Ryan Cabrera (she’s clearly got a thing for guys with “hair”) and even reportedly had a love connection with the underrated but number one Hole (opens in new tab). Her 10-month marriage to Corey Bohan, however, was her most well-known and turbulent relationship.
Partridge and Bohan began dating in 2008, and they were engaged in a serious relationship long before they married in 2016. Bohan even occasionally made appearances on episodes of The Hills. Here is all you need to know about Audrina’s ex-husband and their relationship before you reunite with Patridge and friends on June 24 for the debut of The Hills: New Beginnings.
Bohan was a successful professional BMX rider before becoming renowned as Patridge’s leading man. Bohan created X Games history by being the first motorcross rider to win the BMX dirt component of the competition three years in a row. The athlete was so skilled at motorcross that he had many podium finishes in the sport. Bohan, an Australian athlete known as the “Wizard of Aus,” caught the eye of Red Bull, the sponsor of the X Games, and the energy drink company eventually signed him to appear in a YouTube series.
Unfortunately, Patridge and Bohan were unable to succeed on the show, and after one particularly trying episode, the two announced their public separation. At the series premiere, Patridge told People Magazine(opens in new tab), “It was a long time coming.” “I’ve had enough. There comes a time when you’re just ready to let go and can’t handle it any longer. Yet, on camera? Yikes.
The on-screen breakup of Patridge and Bohan in Audrina did not spell the end of their romance. After getting back together, Patridge gave birth to their daughter Kirra in June 2014, and the pair soon got married. But as conflicts erupted in their household, things deteriorated, and in September 2017, Patridge and Bohan filed for divorce(opens in new tab). After Patridge accused Bohan of domestic violence and even obtained a temporary restraining order against him, there ensued a bitter and exceedingly tense custody dispute.
Bohan even filed a petition(opens in new tab) to prevent their daughter Kirra from appearing on the show after the divorce was finalised and word spread that Patridge was returning to reality television with The Hills: New Beginnings. He was adamant that he didn’t think it was “in Kirra’s best interests to appear on reality TV as the effects of being in the public spotlight could be extremely damaging to such a young child.” The two-year-old is most likely to make an appearance since he dropped the petition. It goes without saying that Bohan won’t appear on the show, which is absolutely OK with us because it just means that Patridge and Brescia will have more steamy “will they or won’t they” dialogue for us to enjoy!
