Just before he was about to be sentenced in a case involving the riot at the US Capitol, a man identified as Christopher Worrell vanished.
Prosecutors are requesting that this person serve a significant jail sentence that is longer than ten years, according to a warrant that was made public on Friday.
Christopher Worrell: Who is he?
The age of Christopher Worrell is 52. He is a Naples, Florida, resident. The defendant, who was convicted for his part in the incident on January 6, 2021, when a crowd stormed the U.S. Capitol building as Joe Biden was being certified as the winner of the presidential election, was initially due to receive his sentence on Friday.
He specifically targeted police officers with pepper spray gel during the Capitol invasion. In order to punish him for his deeds, the prosecution argued for a lengthy 14-year prison sentence. But before his scheduled sentencing, the individual disappeared.
After a five-day bench trial presided over by Senior U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, Worrell was found guilty. Judge Lamberth rejected Worrell’s claim that he had only pepper sprayed other protesters and not police officers when announcing the verdict, calling it “preposterous.” The judge continued to disparage Worrell’s trial testimony, calling it “unbelievable” and a “false narrative.”
According to media reports, the person’s disappearance caused the intended sentencing to be delayed, and on Tuesday a bench warrant was issued under seal for his arrest. The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C. has pleaded with anyone who might know something about his whereabouts to come forward.
When Worrell was released from a Washington, D.C., jail in November 2021, he was placed under house arrest in Florida. Since a judge upheld his civil rights complaints regarding the way he had been treated in jail, it had only been a little over a month.
