Carli Lloyd, a former USWNT player, criticized coach Vlatko Andonovski after the team was eliminated from the Women’s World Cup.
Because of the team’s poor tournament performance and early exit, Lloyd expressed her dissatisfaction with Andonovski’s coaching choices. The defending world champion was eliminated from the World Cup by Sweden in a penalty shootout.
Carli Lloyd: Who is she?
Former American professional soccer player Carli Lloyd has a long list of noteworthy accomplishments. She is a two-time Olympian because she took home the gold in both the Summer Olympics of 2008 and 2012. Additionally, in 2015 and 2019, Lloyd won the FIFA Women’s World Cup twice. She twice took home the coveted FIFA Player of the Year award in 2015 and 2016.
Throughout her career, Lloyd participated in four Olympic Games as a member of the American Women’s National Team (2008, 2012, 2016, and 2021). Notably, she contributed significantly to the team’s success by scoring game-winning goals in the Olympic gold medal games in 2008 and 2012.
She was raised in the South Jersey community of Delran Township, about 20 minutes northeast of Philadelphia, where she was born to Stephen and Pamela Lloyd. Lloyd always had a passion for soccer and started playing when he was five years old.
Before making her debut for the women’s national soccer team, Carli Lloyd competed for the United States at the under-21 level. At the age of 23, she was elevated to the senior team due to the national team selectors’ interest in her performances and skills. Lloyd participated in her first senior team game against Ukraine on July 10, 2005.
On August 5, 2021, Carli Lloyd made Olympic history when she scored two important goals to help the United States defeat Australia 4-3 for the bronze medal.
Following the Olympics, Lloyd made the decision to leave the national team in 2021.
