As a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in college football, NFL prospect Arik Gilbert is creating a stir.
He has worked with the LSU Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs since beginning his NCAA career, and now that he has, fans are curious about him.
Who is Arik Gilbert?
Tight end for college football Arik Dasan Gilbert was born on February 22, 2002. In 2019, he was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year while competing for Marietta High School, where he won a state championship.
He started playing college football at Louisiana State University after graduating, where he amassed 35 passes and two touchdowns, earning a spot on the Freshman All-SEC team.
He then transferred the following year, in 2021, to the Bulldogs, where he stayed for two years before making a second transfer, this time to Nebraska, in 2023.
Gilbert will not be permitted to play in the 2023 season due to NCAA transfer regulations unless a hardship waiver is granted.
The NCAA is still examining the waiver as of right now.
From where is Arik Gilbert?
Gilbert was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, where he also started his ascent to the top.
The successful football pro started out by playing for the Marietta Blue Devils.
He established a remarkable track record and earned a reputation as one of the fastest varsity players at the time.
What happened to Arik Gilbert?
Gilbert was arrested without incident on August 29, 2023, while he was still awaiting NCAA approval for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of goods from a liquor store.
Just before 2 a.m., police were called to SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop, where they discovered a broken glass door.
According to the report, Gilbert was spotted arriving at the scene with a bag containing stolen vape products, Delta 8, cigars, and lighters.
According to police, the bag was worth $1,672.07 in total, and the building sustained damages worth $650.
According to the report, he was arrested in the Lancaster County jail on a burglary charge, which is a felony in Nebraska.
In response to Gilbert’s arrest, Nebraska coach Matt Rhule stated that he was “obviously really disappointed, really sad” for the young star.
Gilbert had been resolving some personal issues, he also disclosed.
He “had been really proud of the job he had done in the spring and summer but, to be honest, during camp, he’s had some struggles and he’s been working to overcome them,” Rhule said, according to the report.
We have a fantastic team here working to assist him, but obviously, last night’s events occurred. We’ll need to work through it as we go forward because I’m disappointed for him and his family as well as the business owner.
Gilbert’s court appearance date and how it will impact his eligibility for the upcoming season are both unknown at this time.
