Marcel Marceau was born on March 22, 1923 in Strasbourg, France. During his early professional years, he married his first wife, Huguette Mallet, with whom he had two children.
They were both present when Marcel Marceau founded the Compagnie de Mime. Marcel Marceau’s company was the world’s only pantomime company. Marceau founded his company in late 1949 with the intention of developing a specific art of silence.
Marcel Marceau’s second wife
Marcel has been married three times in his life. Marceau married Elzbieta “Ella” Jaroszewicz after his divorce from Huguette Mallet. Elzbieta “Ella” Jaroszewicz, Marcel Marceau’s second wife, was a French-Polish choreographer and mime artist.
They ran into each other while Marcel was returning to France from a performance in Russia. The late mime artist visited Henryk Tomaszewski’s Pantomima company after stopping in Wroclaw, Poland.
Jaroszewicz missed Marceau’s visit because she was in the hospital being treated for appendicitis. Marcel Marceau sent flowers to his future wife after learning that a company employee was ill.
They first met when Pantomima was invited to the Festival of the Nations, which was held at the Sarah Bernhardt Theater in Paris.
Marcel Marceau’s last wife
Marcel met his third wife, Anne Sicco, in the 1970s. Sicco was in her twenties, while Marcel was approaching 50. The couple married in early 1975 and lived in Paris together. She later taught experimental theatre at Marcel Marceau’s mime school.
Camille and Aurelia are the names of Sicco and Marcel’s daughters. According to his obituaries, Marcel Marceau was married to Sicco until his death. Marcel was said to be “survived by his wife,” Sicco, when he died on September 22, 2007.
