Boshoff, in her article, reports that Smith is wearing an 11-carat diamond engagement ring. The story further adds that the 92-year-old Murdoch picked the ring personally and presented it to Smith on March 17.
Murdoch is engaged to marry for the fifth time, as per a report by New York Post. The media mogul told the tabloid: “I was very nervous. I dreaded falling in love – but I knew this would be my last. It better be. I’m happy.
His fifth fiancee was previously married to country singer Chester Smith and a radio and television executive who died in 2008. According to the report, the two bonded over the media business. “It’s a gift from God,” Smith told the New York Post. We first met in September of last year. I’ve been a widow for 14 years. My husband, like Rupert, was a businessman. Worked for local newspapers, created radio and television stations, and promoted Univision. So I’m fluent in Rupert’s language. We hold similar beliefs.”
When she and Murdoch arrived at Los Angeles International Airport this week, the 66-year-old was seen wearing the diamond ring. According to the Daily Mail, Carol Woolton, a contributing editor to Vogue and a leading international authority on jewellery, stated that the ring “is the one.”
“There is a similar ring coming up for auction at Sotheby’s for £1million, but at retail that might be £2million. It’s interesting that it’s so traditional. The invincibility of the diamond as a stone goes with the idea of forever love. It suggests it’s been given by an old-fashioned romantic. It’s the largest size diamond that you could wear every day. If you’re getting engaged at this point in your life, she’s going to want to wear things, not lock them away in a safe,” Woolton added.
