Walton ranked as the second richest woman in the world and the 19th richest person in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index as of October 2022 with a net worth of $59 billion. In the spring of 2023, Forbes pegged her net worth at $56.7 billion, moving her up to third on the list of richest women.
Walton married a well-known Louisianan investment banker in 1974 when she was 24 years old. They divorced each other after 2.5 years. She quickly married the “contractor who built her swimming pool,” according to Forbes, “but they, too, divorced quickly.”
Walton has been involved in a lot of car accidents. She broke her leg during a 1983 Thanksgiving family gathering near Acapulco when she lost control of a rental Jeep and slid into a ravine. After being removed from Mexico, she underwent more than two dozen surgeries, but she claimed that her wounds were still bothering her.
In April 1989, she ran over and killed Oleta Hardin, 50, who was crossing a road in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In 1998, she crashed her drunken vehicle into a gas meter. Her fee was set at $925.
In 1998, Walton moved to the Walton’s Rocking W Ranch in Millsap, Texas. She had a deep love for horses. She had a reputation for being able to predict which 2-month-olds would grow up to be champion cutters.
Walton claimed that he wanted to focus on the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art when he relocated to Fort Worth, Texas, in 2015 and put the farm up for sale. She returned to Bentonville in 2020.
