Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and his son, Paul Murdaugh.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours after a six-week trial before convicting Alex Murdaugh, 54, on two counts of murder. He will face a lengthy prison sentence when he is sentenced on Friday.
On June 7, 2021, Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were shot at close range near their family estate’s dog kennels. Alex Murdaugh remained motionless as he learned the outcome of his case at a hearing in Walterboro on Thursday evening.
Prior to 2006, Murdaugh’s family members had been the region’s top attorneys for decades. Murdaugh was once a well-known personal injury attorney in the state. Murdaugh Country was named after them because of their enormous influence. Randolph Murdaugh Sr., Randolph “Buster” Murdaugh Jr., and Randolph Murdaugh III were solicitors for a five-county region of South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
Who is Randolph ‘Buster’ Murdaugh Jr?
Randolph “Buster” Murdaugh Jr. succeeded his father, Randolph Murdaugh Sr., as solicitor for a five-county region of South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
Buster faced opposition only twice in his 46 years in office. Buster was famous for “his love of chewing tobacco, his courtroom prowess, and his flair for acting out murders in front of spellbound juries.” According to Cornell Law School Professor John Blume, Buster received several reprimands from the state supreme court for his closing arguments in various cases involving the death penalty. A federal grand jury allegedly indicted him in 1956 for allegedly advising a bootlegger to move a still into a neighbouring county to elude the police; however, he was found not guilty. Buster retired from the stage in 1986.
