Especially after Megan Rapinoe missed a penalty shootout during the USWNT’s match against Sweden in extra time, social media users appeared upset that Rapinoe was substituted for Alex Morgan. Morgan could have done a much better job, according to fans.
USA were the better team. And they’d be moving on if Alex Morgan was available in the penalty shootout. STUPUD substitution

Alex Morgan: who is she?
American soccer player Alex Morgan has distinguished success and notoriety both on and off the field. Morgan, who was born on July 2, 1989, in San Dimas, California, developed a love for soccer at a young age. She excelled in high school and played youth soccer with a number of clubs, earning a scholarship to play at the University of California, Berkeley.
Morgan’s talent and skill were obvious throughout her college career, and she became a standout player for the Cal Golden Bears. She was selected by the Western New York Flash in the Women’s Professional Soccer League’s inaugural season in 2010 as a result of her impressive performances, which attracted the attention of professional teams.
Morgan’s career grew even more successful as she started playing an important role for the USWNT, the women’s national soccer team of the United States. She made her USWNT debut in 2010, and her quickness, agility, and goal-scoring skills quickly made an impression. She was a key contributor to the team’s gold-medal performance at the 2012 London Olympics by scoring an important goal against Canada in the semifinal.
One of Alex Morgan’s career high points was her crucial contribution to the USWNT’s victory at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Throughout the competition, she scored six goals, including a game-winning goal against Germany in the semifinals. Morgan was the second-highest goal scorer in the competition, and her outstanding performance earned her the Silver Boot.
Along with her accomplishments on the field, Alex Morgan has established herself as a leading proponent of gender equality and women’s rights in sports. She has used her platform to spread awareness of significant social issues and has been outspoken about the need for equal pay for female athletes. In a 2019 lawsuit brought by the USWNT against the United States Soccer Federation, Morgan was one of the key players calling for the women’s team to receive equal pay and treatment.
Morgan has dabbled in other interests off the field as well. She has written books for kids, including the “The Kicks” series, which celebrates female strength, grit, and teamwork. She has also appeared in a variety of media, such as television programs and commercials, broadening her influence beyond soccer.
