Following allegations of inappropriate behavior and a hostile work environment on the Days Of Our Lives set, Albert Alarr’s involvement with the long-running American television soap opera came to an end. After several weeks of protests and a thorough investigation by distributor Sony Pictures Television, the incident resulted in his firing.
A petition signed by 25 Days of Our Lives cast members, accusing Alarr of engaging in inappropriate behavior and creating a toxic work environment, served as the impetus for his dismissal. He was reportedly accused of touching actors inappropriately, disparaging them verbally, and acting in fear.
The cast members demanded that he be replaced as director by a woman as a result of these serious accusations. The show’s executive producer, Ken Corday, addressed the cast’s concerns by not only terminating Alarr’s employment but also by announcing the adoption of new human resources policies in response to the mounting unhappiness.
During the nine-week investigation into Albert Alarr’s behavior, the producers initially chose to keep him on with a warning and required new training. The cast, however, openly revolted against this choice because they thought it didn’t result in any significant change. Due to pressure from the cast and the results of the investigation, he eventually left the show.
Albert Alarr rebutted the accusations against him in a statement that he released in defense. He claimed that two unnamed people who wanted more money and power on the show were behind the campaign against him.
He added that their strategy was motivated by exploiting hateful stereotypes in order to bring down a Black man in a position of authority. Alarr also refuted a number of the accusations leveled against him, claiming that some were untrue and others had been misinterpreted or changed beyond recognition.
