ALASTAIR Bruce has a long relationship with the monarchy.
The former member of the Royal Company of Archers is currently the broadcaster’s royal events analyst.
Who is Alastair Bruce?
Alastair was born on June 25, 1960, in Hampshire, and grew up there.
He attended Milton Abbey institution in Dorset, a residential institution for boys, before attending Sandhurst, the Royal Military Academy in Berkshire.
He has published many books and given several seminars in the United Kingdom and the United States.
The University of Winchester designated him Honorary Professor of Media in 2011.
Viscount Severn, Prince Edward’s son, has him as a godfather.
In 1979, Bruce joined the British Army.
In 1980, he was promoted to Lieutenant in the Scots Guards’ 2nd Battalion.
He was made a Knight of the Order of St John in 2008, and in 2010 he received an OBE for his contributions to the Territorial Army.
Bruce was made Honorary Colonel of 5 Military Intelligence Battalion in 2020, and Tayforth Universities Officers’ Training Corps the following year.
Alastair is a Sky News royal, religious, and national events analyst who has also worked for the BBC.
He has provided commentary on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Royal Wedding in 2011, the Papal Visit in 2010, and the funerals of the Princess of Wales and the Queen Mother in 1997 and 2002, respectively.
He served as a historical consultant on the Academy Award-winning films The King’s Speech and The Young Victoria.
Bruce also contributed his experience to Downton Abbey to ensure that it was as historically authentic as possible, including advice on serving food, proper posture, and how people would have gotten out of automobiles.
In addition, he has produced documentaries for the BBC, Discovery Channel, and PBS America.
The Bishop of Edinburgh wedded Bruce and his husband Stephen Knott in St John’s Episcopal Church on July 3, 2021, after 20 years together.
On Twitter, he posted a selfie of himself and Knott standing outside the chapel after their wedding ceremony.
“This would not have been possible in [the] British Army I joined in 1979,” Bruce wrote.
