Metro Nashville Police officers who intervened Monday morning to stop a suspect from starting fire inside a Nashville private school were recognised for their courage.
The founder of the Uvalde Foundation for Kids, which was formed in response to the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, appeared in Nashville on Tuesday to recognise responding law enforcement officers for “textbook, yet heroic action by officers to save students,” according to foundation President Michael Stevens.
cops Rex Englebert, a four-year MNPD veteran, and Michael Collazo, a nine-year MNPD veteran, were among several cops who rushed inside the Covenant School to stop the danger.
Each soldier will receive a medal of honour from the charity.
“These officers did what they failed to do in Uvalde,” foundation founder Daniel Chapin said in a media release. “These officers did what they failed to do in Columbine. From the moment they arrived on scene, officers wasted no time … they executed perfectly within 14 minutes.”
Social media users applauded Englebert’s and Collazo’s heroism Monday night, calling the duo “great Americans” who prevented “an even larger tragedy.”
