In March 2023, after her twin boys vanished near Galveston, Texas’ Pleasure Pier, a mother’s worst nightmare came true.
According to reports, one twin’s body was found after a day-long search, but the other is still missing.
Who are the Galveston twins Josue and Jefferson Perez?
Honduran twin boys Josue and Jefferson Perez are 13 years old.
They were staying with family at the time of their disappearance in Houston, Texas.
What happened to Josue and Jefferson Perez?
On March 5, 2023, at Galveston Island Beach, Jose and Jefferson were last seen in waist-deep or chest-deep water about 20 yards from the shore.
The boys’ whereabouts are currently unknown, but authorities suspect they may have drowned.
“Nobody confirms seeing them go underwater,” Galveston Beach Patrol Leuitenent Austin Kirwin explained, via Fox26 Houston.
“So essentially what happened is they were out in the water, the parents briefly lost sight of them, and they looked back up into that area, and they did not see them any longer.”
He added: “You never know what the beach can do. It’s not a pool. It’s not safe water, even if it looks like it is. So always swim with a buddy and know how to swim.”
They were last seen around 4.30pm wearing blue shirts and red swim trunks.
The Galveston County Community Emergency Response Team, Beach Patrol, US Coast Guard, and volunteers later joined the Galveston Beach Patrol in the search for the missing boys.
According to Click2Houston, after several fruitless days of searching, a body that matched the description of one of the twin boys was discovered on March 7.
The bodies of the other twins have not yet been discovered.
