The Punjab School Education Department declared on Friday that regular school hours would resume across the province on Saturday.
“Today is the last day of holidays in school,” a department official said in a statement.
After violent demonstrations broke out earlier this week in response to the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, educational institutions were shut down for two days.
As the violence grew more intense and finally resulted in the deaths of four people and several injuries, the provincial government in Punjab made the decision to close down educational institutions.
As protesters poured into the high-security zone, vandalizing and destroying property, there was doubt surrounding the state of law and order in the province.
All private and public schools in Punjab will be closed on May 11 and May 12, according to a notice released on May 10 by the school education department.
All educational institutions, with the exception of medical colleges and universities, will be closed on May 11 and 12, according to Punjab’s Higher Education Department.
“Secondary School First Annual exam, 2023 to be held on 11th and 12th May also postponed,” the notification added.
Sindh, meanwhile, had decided to continue with the examinations and said that all schools would remain open despite the protests. The government also warned schools against closure and said it would take action if any educational institutions were found shut.
