A feature that will enable voice transcription for WhatsApp’s 2 billion users is being added.
However, there is a catch: It isn’t truly ready for launch yet.
Even the beta testers have not yet been given access to the feature.
Several fortunate WhatsApp users get access to the beta programme, where they can test out new features before the rest of the user base does.
The beta programme, which has 15 to 20 participants from several continents, including North America and Europe, will eventually test the update.
However, after a setback, the voice note transcription capability is still being developed.
In September 2021, WhatsApp started working on adding the ability to transcribe voice notes.
But for whatever reason, the feature’s development was stopped.
With behind-the-scenes features, this is typical.
WaBetaInfo, however, stated that the chat app owned by Meta is now working on a feature once more.
While customers wait for the future voice note transcription feature, WhatsApp released a number of new features on Tuesday.
Over the past week, Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, has been hard at work adding a new “status” feature to its platforms.
The status function on Facebook has been around since the site’s creation.
But it recently appeared on Instagram, and as of today, WhatsApp.
“Status is a popular way to share ephemeral updates with friends and close contacts on WhatsApp,” the company said in a blog post today.
