Since her departure in 2020 with closest friend and former co-host Sofia Franklyn, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast has smashed numerous records.
However, the podcaster has finally spoken up about what actually transpired between the two after a three-year feud.
What happened between Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn?
Alex recently acknowledged that since her former co-star quit the podcast three years ago, she hasn’t spoken to Sofia.
The Call Her Daddy actress has discussed her ongoing conflict with her former co-star, saying it was more intense than anyone had thought.
Alex revealed that Sofia left Call Her Daddy on May 27, 2020.
Call Her Daddy split up with Sofia when she and Alex got into a fight with Barstool Sports, the podcast’s previous distributor.
Sofia wasn’t satisfied with the deal, according to HITC, despite Barstool owner Dave Portnoy offering the co-hosts a $500,000 annual pay, bonuses, and six months off of their original three-year contract.
The disagreement between the two co-founders was also influenced by Peter Nelson, Sofia’s ex-boyfriend, who had an impact on her acceptance of possible transactions.
When Alex and Sofia were roommates in 2018, they started the Call Her Daddy podcast.
In just two months, the number of downloads for the podcast skyrocketed from 12,000 to 2 million.
The podcast’s streaming rights were purchased by Barstool Sports around a month after its debut episode aired.
Maintaining the initial “female locker-room talk” vibe of the show, Call Her Daddy was recognized for its raucous conversation and idea naming for many years.
The podcast has grown and changed since Sofia left, covering a greater variety of subjects and appealing to a wider audience.
The show will be available on Spotify for three years after Alex inked a three-year deal in 2021, making it the largest exclusive arrangement for a female-led podcast on the streaming service ever.
In a Barstool Sports interview, Alex discussed the state of her relationship with Sofia.
After Sofia departed the podcast in 2018, Alex said in a video that was uploaded on X (previously Twitter) that she never spoke to Sofia again.
Alex responded, “I don’t think she would ever reach out, I don’t know if there’s anything to say,” when asked if she would respond to Sofia if she contacted out. It seems, to me, to be all done.
“Someone said this the other day which kind of hit me, I’ve now been doing the show on my own longer than we did it together.
“So that’s kid of like… it feels so far away, and I know you guys probably feel that way with business stuff, when you’re in a new era, all I can think about is ‘this is my baby’ and I’m producing it and I’m trying to make it the biggest.
“So it feels like so long ago that that happened that I don’t think about it.”
Looking shocked by the influencer’s answer, she was asked: “Do you think if it didn’t blow up the way it did it would have…”
Before the question could be asked in full, Alex responded: “I think it was gonna end regardless. We had personal conversations, like this s*** was so bad behind the scenes it was gonna end.”
Shortly after departing from the Call Her Daddy show, Sofia launched her own podcast, Sofia with an F.
Unfortunately, Sofia lost sponsors for the show in May 2021 as a result of her nasty remarks directed at a former Disney star who ignored her message.
One of the podcast’s branded advertisements, BetterHelp, severed their ties with Sofia following her outburst.
The Daily Beast reports that StitchFix, a clothing subscription service, has stopped promoting on the show and would never again collaborate with Sofia.
Although Sofia didn’t identify the woman by name, viewers were able to deduce that she was referring to Mollee Gray based on the several identifying clues she provided.
After listening to the podcast, the 32-year-old posted a TikTok description of it, calling it “very vulgar, very hurtful and pretty offensive.”
