The country of Pakistan is going to experience a severe cold wave, with temperatures projected to plummet as low as -15°C, according to Pak Weather, the country’s largest automated network of weather stations.
Details indicate that the cold wave will begin on January 10 and last until January 14. In mountainous places, significant snowfall is anticipated during this time.
Snowfall is anticipated in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK). Additionally, there will be snowfall in Murree.
In Sindh’s northwestern and western regions, the temperature is predicted to drop close to freezing, while Punjab’s northwestern and northern regions are predicted to experience temperatures below freezing.
Temperatures as low as -10°C are possible in regions of Balochistan’s north, west, and centre, and the same is predicted for upper KP. AJK and GB could experience temperatures as low as -12°C. Owais Hyder, a weather expert and the CEO of Pak Weather, said in an interview with ProPakistan that record-breaking winter weather events are anticipated in the following days.
A weak polar vortex makes it possible for Siberian winds to blow here with full force, which generates a chilly wave. Strong Siberian winds are prevented from reaching this area by a powerful polar vortex.
