According to the most recent weather forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), thunderstorms and rain are expected across upper and central Pakistan over the next two days. This will provide much-needed reprieve from the heat and dry period that is now affecting the whole nation.
A westerly wave is expected to arrive in higher sections of the nation on May 16 (evening/night), and it is anticipated to linger in upper and central areas of the country until May 18.
Under the weather system, Wind-dust/thunderstorm rain with isolated hailstorm is expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar),Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu, Tank, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Islamabad, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Kasur, Okara and Lahore on 17th and 18th May.
Wind-dust/thunderstorm rain is expected in Balochistan (Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Qila Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Chamman, Pishin, Noshki, Naseerabad, Sibbi), south Punjab (Layyah, Kot Addu, Multan, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Sahiwal) and upper Sindh (Sukkur, Jacobabad & Larkana) on 16th (evening/night) and 17th May.
The PMD issued a warning that a dust storm might inflict standing crops and damage to buildings in Kashmir, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 17 and 18. Additionally, the PMD recommended farmers to plan their operations while taking the latest weather forecast into consideration.
While the general population is recommended to stay in safe areas during the dust storm, windstorm, or thunderstorm, visitors are also urged to exercise caution throughout the anticipated time.
