ust 25, 2022, that Captain John Grismore of the Vermont Sheriff’s Office had been sacked as a result of the public release of a video purportedly showing the captain violently beating a detainee earlier in the month.

The inmate is shackled to a bench and can be seen being repeatedly kicked in the groyne and abdomen in the video by the former captain. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on Friday shared NBC News with a video showing Grismore kicking the unidentified detainee after he allegedly used a homophobic slur.

The Sheriff’s Office condemned Captain John Grismore’s actions and called them “egregious.”

John Grismore is the Republican frontrunner for the Sheriff’s Office in the primary election and previously had Roger Langevin’s support. However, in light of the recent assault, Langevin has revoked his support for the Sheriff hopeful.

According to VTDigger, despite bipartisan calls for Grismore to pull out of the race, he is expected to remain on the ballot as only court orders can remove his candidacy.
