Asif Ali, a power hitter for Pakistan, came dangerously close to hitting Fareed Ahmad, an Afghan pacer, with his bat in the penultimate over of the Super 4 game of the 2022 Asia Cup on Wednesday in Sharjah (September 7). Asif smashed one behind the stumps at fine leg on the fifth ball of the 19th over of the chase and was caught. Asif responded by pushing the bowler back and, when the bowler replied once more, Asif nearly hit him with the bat before the other Afghanistan fielders arrived and removed Asif. Fareed then spoke in a boisterous manner directly in front of Asif.

Men in Green advanced to the multi-nation tournament’s final thanks to Naseem Shah, who hit two consecutive sixes in the final over to win Pakistan the match. When Asif and Fareed clashed in the centre of the field, Naseem was present. Although the stumps microphone was unable to capture much, it appears that the dialogue between the two was unpleasant.
