In a low-scoring thriller, Naseem Shah’s two sixes in the final over helped Pakistan defeat India and qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 final.
Babar Azam had urged Afghanistan to bat first, and they responded by setting Pakistan a 130-run goal for them to reach in their 20 overs.
After Afghanistan was removed for 130, it seemed like the game was won, but Mohammad Nabi and company’s outstanding bowling gave the Green Shirts a fight for their money.

Earlier Asif Ali, a power hitter for Pakistan, came dangerously close to hitting Fareed Ahmad, an Afghan pacer, with his bat in the penultimate over of the Super 4 game of the 2022 Asia Cup on Wednesday in Sharjah (September 7). Asif smashed one behind the stumps at fine leg on the fifth ball of the 19th over of the chase and was caught. Asif responded by pushing the bowler back and, when the bowler replied once more, Asif nearly hit him with the bat before the other Afghanistan fielders arrived and removed Asif. Fareed then spoke in a boisterous manner directly in front of Asif.

Men in Green advanced to the multi-nation tournament’s final thanks to Naseem Shah, who hit two consecutive sixes in the final over to win Pakistan the match. When Asif and Fareed clashed in the centre of the field, Naseem was present. Although the stumps microphone was unable to capture much, it appears that the dialogue between the two was unpleasant. Words hurled at Asif alarmed him, and Naseem may have heard it as well.
Naseem hit those sixes in the following over, displaying his feelings to everyone in the stadium. Pakistani supporters believe that Naseem sought “revenge” for Asif Ali’s “disrespect” by killing him. Still unknown is what happened in the middle. It is too soon to comment on the situation, but it is clear that a line was crossed there, and punishment may be forthcoming because such behaviour has no place on the field, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) takes such occurrences very seriously.
Pakistan may now enjoy its success in making it to the championship game. On September 11, they will face Sri Lanka in a summit confrontation. India and Afghanistan were eliminated from the competition.
