A CHAMPION rower perished in an unexpected mishap after ingesting a bee while practising.
Waldonilton de Andrade Reis, 43, was guiding a group of bikers near a Brazilian seashore when a bee landed in his mouth.
According to accounts, he perished three weeks later after suffering a serious allergic response.
On March 2, he was participating in a training exercise near Ponta Negra in Manaus when the tragic event occurred.
On Thursday, he perished in the infirmary.
His devastated sister Rosilene Reis stated that if he had gotten oxygen and medical care within three minutes of the sting, he could have been spared.
However, Waldonilton was too far distant for emergency agencies to arrive in time.
Rosilene claims her sibling struggled for 20 minutes for breath before medics came.
She told G1: “There was no help, no health centre, no hospital close by. The most that was available was a fire Department base that didn’t have a doctor on duty.
“If there had been adequate care, a doctor, a fireman, or a health centre, someone could have resuscitated my brother.
“But how did he pass? More than three minutes, it took a while to be taken to Joventina, he couldn’t stand it. No person could stand it.”
