The sports advisor for Punjab, Wahab Riaz, is actively working to advance sports in the region. In a recent development, Riaz unveiled designs for the Sports Board of Punjab’s (SBP) first-ever sports medicine clinic.
Riaz announced the opening of Pakistan’s first sports medicine clinic and a new mosque at the National Hockey Stadium to provide accessible praying facilities for athletes on Twitter to demonstrate his commitment to prioritizing the needs of athletes. The first week of June is when both facilities are scheduled to open.
Riaz, who also plays franchise cricket, has demonstrated a commitment to reviving hockey as a national sport. He declared that the Punjab government will pay 20 hockey players a monthly stipend at a press conference in Lahore.
For these 20 players, the Chief Minister of Punjab has announced a stipend of PKR 20,000 per month, effective the following month. Both domestic and foreign athletes will be included in the team.
Riaz emphasized that there are future plans to improve support and raise monthly stipends, so this initiative is just the beginning. The ultimate objective is to revitalize and maximize the national game of hockey.
