In his speech to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), US President Joe Biden emphasised the terrible effects of recent floods in Pakistan and the necessity of supporting the nation at this crucial time.
Biden declared, “We don’t have much time to fight against climate change,” when addressing the UNGA. The climatic problem is already here. After the past year, nobody appears to have any doubts. He mentioned that much of Pakistan is still under water and needs help.
He emphasised that the human cost of climate change is rising exponentially and added that the US government is working with Congress to provide $11 billion annually to international climate finance to aid lower-income nations in achieving their climate goals.
It is important to note that Pakistan has experienced severe flood damage, with some government officials estimating that the damages exceed $40 billion. Massive infrastructure damage has occurred, resulting in the destruction of 1.4 million homes and 5,563 kilometres of roadways. The agricultural industry of the nation has also suffered significantly.
