The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris has given the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) international recognition for designating two tourist destinations as Biosphere Reserves.
The Gallies Biosphere Reserve, which stretches from Bagnoter to Barian in Galiyat, the Abbottabad district, and Garam Chashma in Chitral, is one of these reserves. Both reserves are important as protected areas on a global scale, especially their forests.
Under the Man and Biosphere (MAB) program of UNESCO, these reserves are managed and overseen.
The MAB program is centered on addressing local residents’ needs while preserving the environmental system. The strict guidelines established by UNESCO for establishing these protected areas have been successfully met by the wildlife department of KP.
This acknowledgment emphasizes the value of their preservation and the welfare of their citizens. It is commendable that the Chief Conservator of the Wildlife Department, KP, was able to win recognition on a global scale.
