An emotional Twitch streamer who argued that it was unfair for Amazon to keep half of the donations viewers made to her has gone viral.
Twitch operates on a 50/50 split of subscription income, which has always been a contentious issue – but it’s getting to be too much for some streamers.
In the midst of the uproar over Twitch’s split, rival platforms such as Kick have emerged. Kick allows broadcasters to keep 95% of what they make, which has led a wave of former Twitch stars to switch platforms.
On a tearful show, broadcaster “Crunkmuffin” blasted Twitch for its choices and told her listeners that it’s unfair that half of her earnings were taken.
Streamer tears up explaining how Twitch takes her money
Crunkmuffin explained in a social media post that once Twitch gets its cut, she doesn’t have enough money to update her work with editors.
“Dude, how about Twitch doesn’t take half the money you guys give me?” she began her rant. “I’m sorry you have to hear this. I’m sorry I have to even have this conversation on my channel. …You pay me more than enough to be here.”
The Twitch 50/50 is not sitting right with me at all. I want to upgrade the content with editors, but i cant afford any when Twitch takes half my sub money every month. I'm making 20k a year when the people are paying me 40k a year to be a streamer. Shits fucked up…. pic.twitter.com/vtVmV5SzzL

Crunkmuffin explained to her fans that it wasn’t their fault she was in this situation and that the entire burden lies with the streaming service as tears started to form in her eyes.
“When people pay me $40k a year to be a streamer, I only make $20,000 per year. She captioned the video, “Sh*t’s f**ked up.
The streamer continued to criticise Twitch in the comments section, claiming that the platform was holding her back when she could have been using her resources to expand and enhance her programming.
“And this whole time I’m thinking it’s my fault for not being entertaining enough, when in reality, Twitch as a company doesn’t care. The people do.”
Crunkmuffin has started streaming on Kick since the tweet went viral. It remains to be seen whether a mass exodus of streamers will force Twitch to reconsider its policies, but it is clear that streamers have more options than ever to switch platforms.
