A student studying astronautics who passed away after being retrieved from the sea close to Brighton Marina is receiving numerous condolences.
Sai Tejaswi Kommareddy, 24, was pulled from the water last week during a significant coastguard search effort.
On Tuesday, April 11, at approximately 4.30 p.m., emergency personnel sped to the well-known marina in response to reports of a lady having problems in the water.
Along with police, ambulance, and a coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent in Hampshire, coastguard workers from Brighton and Shoreham swam to Sai’s aid.
Later, it was revealed that she had sadly passed away.
At Cranfield University in Bedford, the 24-year-old was pursuing a master’s degree in astronautics and space engineering.
A GoFundMe has been set up in an effort to gather money for her loved ones, who reportedly are now attempting to send her remains to India.
According to a university representative, they were “deeply saddened” by Sai’s passing today.
She told The Sun Online: “Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“We know this loss is devastating and we are supporting friends, family and our wider student and staff community.
“We would encourage anyone affected by this news to reach out to our wellbeing team for support and advice.”
An inquest into her death was opened in Brighton on Monday, and has been adjourned until November 6.
