Police have identified the victim as Michael Allen, 35, who was stabbed to death near a nightclub on Sunday.
Mr Allen was found dead near the Eclipse venue on Castle Canyke Road in Bodmin, Cornwall, after complaints of a street brawl.
Seven men and women were rushed to the hospital with suspected stab wounds.
Magistrates have allowed police additional time to interrogate a 24-year-old man in connection with their murder investigation.
Mr Allen, from Liskeard, was described as a “much-loved son, brother, grandson, and uncle who loved his dogs” by his family.
The family further stated that they “respectfully request privacy at this time.”
The inmate, who is also from Bodmin, has been detained on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, and intentionally causing severe bodily damage.
On Sunday, officers were summoned to the site at 03:15 BST.
Five of the seven wounded victims have now been released, while the other two are still in the hospital recovering following surgery.
A memorial site has been established at Bodmin Rugby Club, where Mr Allen played, for people to meet and remember him.
Officers will be on hand to assist the local community between 16:00 and 18:00 BST on Monday, then twice everyday for the next week, from 10:00 to 12:00 and again 16:00 to 18:00.
Det Insp Ilona Rosson said police will “continue to ask the public for their help” in the probe.
She said: “If you have any information relating to this murder and have yet to have spoken with the police, please come forward immediately. The information you have, no matter how small you may feel it could be, could be vital to our investigation.”
It is unclear whether the victims had attended the nightclub prior to the violence outside.Eclipse released a statement saying it was “deeply saddened” by the events and its “thoughts are with the victims and their families”.
