EMOTIONAL condolences have poured in for a week-old amateur football player.
Late on January 22 or early on January 23, Luke Abrahams passed away unexpectedly.
The Northampton native, age 20, played for Hunsbury Hawks FC and Blisworth FC.
He was connected to AFC Spinney as well.
He was recalled as a “brilliant athlete and even better person” by friends and coworkers.
The Hunsbury Hawks FC stated: “We had to bid Luke farewell this week with the deepest sadness.
The Northampton native, age 20, played for both Blisworth FC and Hunsbury Hawks FC.
Moreover, he was connected to AFC Spinney.
His friends and coworkers described him as a “wonderful athlete and even greater friend.”
It is with the deepest grief that we had to say farewell to Luke this week, the Hunsbury Hawks FC declared.
“He was a great player but an even better friend to us all.
“He started it all for the Hawks and we wouldn’t be here without him.
“Till we see you again, rest easy up there buddy. Love your Hawks.”
Also paying their respects, a spokesperson for Blisworth FC sand the club was “devastated”.
And AFC Spinney wrote: “Rest in peace, Luke. A friend to many at Spinney.
Luke worked at the manufacturers The Timken Company and and The Optimist pub.
Colleagues described him as “an amazing young man”.
A fundraiser has been set up to help support his family and give him “the best send off possible”.
Organiser Jamie Podkowka said: “It’s extremely difficult to even put into words how it feels.
“Alongside his Dad, Richard, and I, he helped coach his younger brother Jake’s football team and gave up his time selflessly to develop not only the football skills of those younger than him but in creating unforgettable bonds and friendships amongst the whole team.”
