A “wonderful” 14-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed close to a nature park has received tributes.
After the horrifying events on Monday night in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, Tomasz Oleszak was taken urgently to the hospital.
He was tragically unable to be saved and was pronounced dead early yesterday morning.
A boy, 14, was detained on suspicion of murder, and a girl, 13, was detained on suspicion of helping a criminal.
As soon as Tomasz was officially identified and pictured, police announced today that they both remained in arrest.
The teenager, who played youth football for Gateshead Cleveland Hall CA, has received a deluge of condolences.
The group issued a statement that read: “As a club, we are heartbroken to learn that one of our talented young football players has passed away.
We send our condolences and prayers to Tomasz’s family, friends, and all those who knew him.
The group also disseminated a link to a GoFundMe page that has helped the teen’s family by raising more than £10,000 so far.
The fundraiser’s organiser, Paul Howson, wrote: “Tomasz was a genuinely good-hearted and considerate young man who had been brought to the UK by his parents in search of a better life; he didn’t deserve what had transpired.
“He was liked and loved by many he was a very passionate footballer who we all had the pleasure of coaching. He was much loved member of his local community and will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
“Myself, Michael & Scott and the football team would like to raise as much funds as possible to help support his parents and siblings at what is such a very painful time for them all.
“No matter how big or small every donation would be greatly appreciated.”
“You were an amazing friend to many and we all loved having you as our friend. You had the best music and the most gorgeous smile.
“You are loved and missed by many.”
Just after 8 o’clock on Monday night, Northumbria Police were called to the Aycliffe Crescent section of the Springwell Estate.
Screaming was heard coming from the Whitehills Nature Park, startling scared neighbours.
Currently, police are pleading anyone anyone with information to come forward.
“Tomasz had his whole life ahead of him, and this awful occurrence has cut that life short and left his family completely devastated,” said Chief Superintendent Helena Barron.
“Their grief is unimaginable and they are in the thoughts of everyone at Northumbria Police as we continue to support them in every way we can.
“The investigation is very much ongoing and I want to thank the Springwell Estate community and everyone who has come forward with information for their support.
