Officials said that a 24-year-old Hawaii firefighter died after being washed down a storm drain during intense flooding on the island of Maui.
On January 27, following a violent storm that caused major flooding on the Hawaiian island, Tre’ Evans-Dumaran was assisting locals when he was sucked into a storm drain.
He was located 800 yards distant, where the storm drain empties into the ocean, and was taken in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Before they announced his passing on Saturday, Maui County officials stated he was “making positive and promising signs of improvement.”
In a statement released by the county, his mother, Chelsie Evans, expressed her gratitude to the neighbourhood for its sympathies.
“We want to thank the entire community for the outpouring of love during this time,” she said.
