Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) has once again reported unexpectedly high Fortuner and Hilux sales.
According to monthly sales data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the company sold 712 Fortuner and Hilux models combined, outselling Pakistan’s best-selling economy car, the Suzuki Alto.
It is worth noting that both vehicles cost more than Rs. 10 million (1 crore). One could argue that Toyota IMC has improved its production efficiency in response to the current production crisis.
Nonetheless, it is important to note that both vehicles are among the most expensive locally assembled vehicles in Pakistan. Nonetheless, they outsold the vast majority of economy vehicles.
Even if production issues account for the disproportionate sales in February 2023, the above figures are astronomical for any vehicle costing more than Rs. 10 million.
This goes on to demonstrate the economic disparity and how the elite class in Pakistan fare compared to the working class.
Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) plans to expand its selection of off-road vehicles in Pakistan by introducing new Fortuner and Hilux models in response to the epic success of both heavy hitters.
A passerby spotted the two off-road vehicles this year, which were covered in the same camouflage as the test units for the Revo Rocco and Fortuner Legender. Despite the fact that the specifics are obscured, experts believe the vehicles are Fortuner GR and Hilux GR Sport.
The company has not released any official information about the launch. Nonetheless, given the current economic climate, the launch is likely to take place in late 2023 or early 2024.
