This post-birth concoction is delightful.
A new mother claims that placenta smoothies helped her recover after giving birth and that they are so tasty that she even made some for her fiance.
Tiana-Rose, 24, gave birth to her second son, Arnhem-Sol, six months ago. After learning that the organ can help prevent postpartum depression and anxiety, she decided to add it to her smoothies.
“From my own personal experience and women from all over the world, there’s been nothing but benefits,” the mom told NeedToKnow.Online on Friday, describing the unconventional concoction as “life-changing.”
The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother is a book that Tiana-Rose eventually came across while doing recipe research after initially wanting to have her placenta professionally made into capsules.
Pomegranate juice, frozen mixed berries, yoghurt, banana, coconut oil, honey, a chia and flax seed mixture, and a small piece of the placenta are all ingredients in the drink.
“After the birth [of Arnhem-Sol], the placenta was placed into a sterilized bowl and our doula immediately started preparing it in our kitchen, as we had a home birth,” Tiana-Rose recalled. “She cut it into two centimeter cubes and popped them into an ice cube tray, before placing them in the freezer.”
The mom later added one of the cubes to her smoothie, before taking her first taste.
“I had heard about placenta smoothies and thought they would be gross…. [but] honestly, you could not tell that there was a placenta in there – it was a really nice recipe and I was very surprised by it,” she enthused.
“My fiancé, Luca, gave it a try, completely consented, and he had the same reaction as he thought it tasted just like a cranberry smoothie!”
The Australia-based content creator is now encouraging other expectant moms to preserve their placenta and give it a try.
“I would recommend mothers to try their placenta, whether it’s a smoothie or encapsulation,” she declared. “Once you get past the gross association, it’s actually fine.”
