A NEW Airdrop-like feature for Android users has just been unveiled.
Apple users have had access to the revolutionary Airdrop tool for many years.
Airdrop allows Apple users to share files such as images, documents, and videos with other nearby iOS devices in a seamless and wireless manner.
However, until now, Android users did not have access to such a tool.
Google first announced the Nearby Share setting in August 2022.
According to CNET, this feature will first be available on Google Pixel and Samsung phones.
The feature will eventually be available for all phones running Android 6.0 and higher.
According to Google’s support page, some regions may not yet support the feature.
In the future, Google intends to enable Nearby Share between Android and Chrome OS.
How to check if you have Nearby Share
To see if Nearby Share is available on your device, first go to Settings.
Select Google from the Settings app, then tap on Device connections.
On that list, you can see if Nearby share is an option; if it isn’t, you’ll need to come back later.
If you are an Android user who has access to Nearby Share, you can enable it through the Settings App.
Select Google > Device Connections > Nearby Share, as described above.
When you tap “Turn On,” you’ll be given three options: All Contacts, Some Contacts, and Hidden.
Choose one of the options, and then when you find something to share, tap Share > Nearby Share > select the contact.
