PESHAWAR: The Environmental Protection (Amendment) Bill 2022, which forbids the use of any kind of plastic bag, was approved by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday.
All forms of plastic bags will no longer be produced, imported, bought, sold, stored, distributed, transported, supplied, or used, according to the proposed legislation.
According to the measure, existing stocks of plastic bags must be disposed of by producers, wholesalers, and retailers within six months or they will be seized.
All licences and permissions issued for the production, distribution, and sale of plastic bags have been revoked, and the owners of those licences are no longer permitted to operate a business that deals in the prohibited plastic items.
According to the bill, people who disobey the orders can be fined up to Rs500,000, and those who continue to disobey the directives can be imprisoned for up to one month.
The bill gives the special magistrate the power to punish anyone who violate the prohibition.
