Netflix has a propensity for bringing together a lot of extremely great people in films that it seems simply wouldn’t be possible for a traditional studio to produce today. As an example, “The Good Nurse” is a thriller that is based on real events and stars two Oscar winners in the form of Jessica Chastain (“It Chapter Two”) and Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”).
They are nurses, as the title suggests, employed by a hospital, but it turns out that only one of them is good and that the other one might perhaps be quite evil. The body count certainly rises quickly in this film, especially for one with such an apparently innocent title. Let’s look at it, shall we?
The Good Nurse trailer is full of thrill
Things quickly go strange when Amy, played by Chastain, meets Charlie, played by Redmayne, at a coffee shop. We rapidly rewind the tape to get a feel of what has been happening after she swiftly adds some suspicion to the situation. Amy, a struggling single mother, and Charlie quickly become friends when Charlie visits Amy at the hospital. However, the death rate then spikes alarmingly. As an inquiry progresses, it appears clear that Charlie’s entrance coincident with these fatalities might not have been a coincidence. The following is the movie’s complete synopsis:
Tobias Lindholm (“Mindhunter”) is in the director’s chair for this one, with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917”) penning the screenplay. The very solid ensemble cast also includes the likes of Nnamdi Asomugha (“The Banker”), Kim Dickens (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Malik Yoba (“Why Did I Get Married?”), Alix West Lefler (“Siren”), and Noah Emmerich (“The Truman Show”). Scott Franklin, Darren Aronofsky, and Michael A. Jackman are on board as producers, with Ari Handel, Glen Basner, Jonathan Filley, and Josh Stern serving as executive producers.
