Following a rumoured domestic disturbance, a Texas elementary school teacher was discovered shot dead in her backyard, according to authorities.
Just before 10 o’clock on Saturday, a fatal shooting occurred at a residence in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston, in the 1100 block of Oxford Mills Lane.
Police stated an anonymous male has been listed as a suspect, but as of Monday morning, he was not in jail. There were no other details available right away.
Officers were sent to the house after reports of numerous rounds being fired, according to the police.
When they got there, they found Wendy Duan, 28, lying dead in her yard from gunshot wounds.
A neighbor told the station ABC 13 he heard four gunshots and came outside.
It’s thought that Duan’s murder had something to do with domestic abuse.
Duan has been employed as an elementary school assistant teacher since 2017, according to a statement from the Alief Independent School District.
According to a statement on her Facebook page, Duan was named English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher of the Year in December 2021.
“We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic passing of Alief ISD employee Wendy Duan,” the statement from the school district.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.”
