After its chaotic and suspenseful episode 46, the popular drama series Tere Bin from Geo Entertainment has now enraged the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). The drama sparked outrage on social media after a clickbait promo implied that Murtasim and Meerub, the serial’s leads, had committed marital rape.
The entire episode was edited with pathetic voiceovers after the serial’s creators received numerous complaints from activists who spoke out against marital rape and its negative portrayal on television. However, the PEMRA was unsatisfied and issued a warning to the serial requesting the immediate removal of offensive content.
According to the press release, “Episode 47 of Geo Entertainment channel’s TV serial Tere Bin showed inappropriate content that clearly goes against the rules of PEMRA and that the 2015 electronic media regulations.”
Additionally, it urged the creators to delete or conceal the offending material right away and to make sure that none of their upcoming episodes feature any material of a similar nature. “Strict action will be taken against the makers in case any other regulation is compromised next,” they concluded.
Under the auspices of 7th Sky Entertainment, Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi created the wildly successful romantic drama television series Tere Bin. Geo TV began airing the Siraj ul Haq-directed film on December 28, 2022.
Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi play the main characters in the television series. It quickly became popular because of the chemistry between the leads and because of the compelling plot.
