Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes due to wildfires in Tenerife and Canada.

Canada has declared a state of emergency as more than 1000 wildfires burn across the nation, destroying an area roughly the size of Greece.

British Columbia Province has ordered the evacuation of about 30,000 households, and another 36,000 are on alert.

In Tenerife, a sizable wildfire that has been burning in forests close to the Mount Teide volcano natural park for the past five days has been doused with water by helicopters.

Because of favorable weather, no homes in the popular tourist destination have been destroyed by the fire.

Even so, the Canary Islands’ largest fire in history has destroyed more than 6% of the region and driven more than 12,000 people from their homes.

At least 1,000 fires are currently burning across Canada, making this the worst wildfire season on record for the country.

This summer, there have been over 5,700 fires in Canada. It follows a horrifying fire that claimed at least 110 lives in Maui, an American island state in Hawaii, although the death toll is still expected to rise.
