A TEENAGE girl was fatally stabbed in front of a McDonald’s, allegedly following a dispute over sauce.
Following the brutal stabbing death of 16-year-old Naima Liggon in Washington, D.C., at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, police have detained a second teen.
According to The Washington Post, she and another teen got into a fight after a disagreement over sweet and sour sauce.
After the attack, Naima was taken to a nearby hospital but tragically died from her wounds.
She allegedly suffered stab wounds to her chest and abdomen from a seven-and-a-half-inch pocketknife.
Detective Brendan Jasper testified in court on Monday that an argument over the sauce was the catalyst for Naima’s stabbing.
Jasper continued by stating that Naima, from Waldorf, Baltimore, and another girl had started hitting a 16-year-old who then “lunged” at Naima and her friend as they attempted to get into a car.
The Waldorf-based anonymous 16-year-old girl testified in court that the stabbing was done in self-defense.
She was initially detained on Sunday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder while armed.
The girl had the knife on her, according to the Metropolitan Police, when they went to handcuff her.
Judge Sherri Beatty-Arthur of the DC Superior Court ruled on Monday that the suspect should be detained until Friday because “at the end of the day, someone is dead over a dispute over sauce.”
Naima’s family provided Wusa9 with the following statement: “Naima was a beautiful, smart, funny, and unique young lady who loved life. So many people adored and admired her.
Naima enjoyed basketball, the arts, music, and was developing into a skilled barber.
They also disclosed that the teen was preparing to obtain her driver’s license and had recently been hired as a doughnut specialist at Krispy Kreme.
“This senseless loss has had an impact on our family, our friends, and our neighborhood.
“Naima won’t be present for her prom or graduation. We won’t get to see her complete college, get married, or have children,” they continued.
The day before Naima was scheduled to return to school after the summer break, she passed away.
The principal of Thomas Stone High School, where Naima attended, reportedly paid tribute to the late student.
“This is a heartbreaking and tragic time for our school community,” said Principal Shanif Pearl.
The day before the start of a new school year, especially, “This is not the news a principal ever wants to share.”
The 16-year-old murder suspect will also miss school because she must remain in custody until her next court appearance, according to the Washington Post.
For minors under the age of 16, US authorities have imposed a curfew in some areas of Washington, DC.
After a man was fatally stabbed outside a McDonald’s in Bath’s downtown in May, this tragic incident occurred.
At the scene, Ben Moncrieff was pronounced dead, and a 15-year-old boy was detained on murder suspicion.
And in Salford, Manchester, outside a McDonald’s, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in a horrifying attack in March.
