The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has praised Dubai’s taxi drivers for their integrity after they returned more than Dh5.6 million in lost property and cash to customers in 2022.
One of the 101 drivers who returned lost items discovered a black bag filled with diamonds valued at Dh1 million, and another driver returned Dh3.6 million in cash that was left in their taxi. Gold worth Dh200,000, designer handbags and watches, each worth over Dh400,000, and large sums of cash, including Dh183,000, Dh200,000, and Dh221,000, were among the other items returned.
Additionally, a total of 12,410 mobile phones, 2,819 electronic devices, and 342 laptops were returned by the drivers. The drivers received praise from the RTA and awards for their deeds.
“Reports of lost and found items by drivers are a source of joy for everyone,” said Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency.
“They set excellent examples of responsibility, honesty, and morality.”
According to him, the behavior of the drivers paints a favorable picture of Dubai’s transportation systems and reveals their true selves.
He continued, “RTA focuses on honoring drivers on a regular basis to motivate and reward their integrity, high moral standards, and admirable handling of other people’s money.
“Their honesty enhances their performance and raises the bar for the taxi service in the emirate,” says the author.
