A 26-year-old trapeze artist was performing a new performance when she tragically fell into the circus ring in front of hundreds of youngsters and their parents. The incident was captured on horrifying video.
Tatyana Zolotukhina, 34, was performing with her at a Russian performance when she dropped 16 feet to the earth after failing to catch his hand.
Screams were followed by a brief period of silence as her husband and other alarmed personnel carried her out of the arena after rushing to her aid.
As she was taken off the ring, the crowd cheered.
After the fall, the high-wire performer showed signs of consciousness and was later taken to the hospital for an MRI.
She suffered a wrist fracture, and a possible spine fracture was feared.
The injured performer is a part of the travelling Filatov circus, which is maintained by a 180-year-old family that many consider to be Russia’s oldest.
Tatyana, who calls herself a “ballet artist,” and her husband were performing “Flame,” a “Belts”-inspired act, without any safety nets.
She blogged about the new high-risk act eight weeks prior, claiming that it had taken two years to prepare and that she had experienced “scars, bruises, fear, and much more behind the scenes” during that time.
She explained: “I worked, I tried. I was on my way to my goal, and now I’m flying. I made it.”
Another video illustrates the proper progression of the aerial stunt.
The general director of the Great Moscow State Circus, Edgard Zapashny, stated that Tatyana “fell while doing a challenging and dangerous trick from a height of five metres.”
He said: “She has a wrist fracture, and possibly a compression fracture of the spine….
“The circus director is at the hospital with her.
“The artist is conscious and is moving around independently.”
