Just months before the World Cup, renowned opening batter Tamim Iqbal shocked the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from international play.
Tamim, who had served as Bangladesh’s representative for 16 years, announced his decision in front of a press conference in Chattogram.
“For me, this is the end. I gave it my all. I gave it my all. Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from international cricket at this time.
Tamim acknowledged the tremendous support he received from his family, coaches, teammates, and the BCB throughout his journey, though he did not provide any further details.
The 34-year-old batsman, who retired from Twenty20 internationals last year, leaves behind an impressive legacy, holding the record for Bangladesh’s most ODI runs and hundreds.
The left-handed batter is the third-highest run-scorer among active cricketers, behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, with 8,313 runs in ODI play, including 14 centuries.
The talented batsman has participated in 70 Test matches for his nation, amassing 5,134 runs at a 38.89 average, including 10 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
Tamim Iqbal is one of the cricketers who has made centuries in all three formats; his best scores in Test, ODI, and T20I, respectively, were 206, 158, and 103.
