Sweet Tooth, Netflix’s fan-favorite post-apocalyptic series, will return for Season 2 in April, the company announced today. Based on Jeff Lemire’s dark comic books, Netflix’s Sweet Tooth is a surprisingly hopeful adaptation that shows how only by sticking together can people survive in extreme conditions.
Sweet Tooth is set in a future where the mysterious Sick has wiped out most of humanity. It follows Gus (Christian Convery), a human/deer hybrid boy who ventures out into the world for the first time after his father’s death. Gus is guarded by Big Man (Nonso Anozie), a traveller who sees his mission as a way to atone for past transgressions. Gus’ journey is filled with joy and wonder because he was raised far away from what remains of civilization, and everything seems new to him. Despite this, some humans believe that sacrificing the hybrid children born after the Sick has spread is the key to finding a cure.
Gus is imprisoned in an abandoned zoo by the Last Men, a paramilitary group led by the nefarious General Abbot, at the end of Season 1. (Neil Sandilands). The synopsis for Season 2 promises that the story will pick up where we last left our heroes, as Gus bonds with other hybrid children and tries to remain optimistic about the future. Gus, meanwhile, will team up with Aimee Eden (Dania Ramirez) to free the hybrids and flee the Last Men.
